Transfer deadline day moves for David Luiz and Moussa Sissoko helped take the total amount spent in the summer transfer window by Premier League clubs beyond £1.175m in what proved to be a new record by over £200m.

A number of clubs left their transfer business until the last minute to trigger a rush of deals and failed moves on deadline day – none more so than Tottenham in their pursuit of Sissoko. After bulking at Newcastle’s £30m asking price, Spurs risked missing out when Everton met the valuation.

However, chairman Daniel Levy followed up Tottenham’s initial £16m rejected bid with an improved offer for Sissoko, and the France international completed his move to White Hart Lane just in time to have the move signed off by the Premier League.

A number of clubs unsurprisingly broke their club record purchases, with only seven of the top flight failing to do so, while Manchester United memorably set a new world record transfer in their £89m acquisition of Paul Pogba.

Here, we take a look at the important numbers from the Premier League transfer window.

£1.175bn – the total amount spent by Premier League clubs

£170m - the amount of money reportedly spent by Premier League clubs on deadline day Wednesday.

£155m – It was also a record transfer deadline day as clubs spent £155m on last-minute deals, beating the previous record of £140m set back in 2013.

£60m - the average gross spend by all 20 Premier League clubs.

38 – the number of players Chelsea currently have out on loan

34 - the number of deals involving Premier League clubs on Wednesday - 16 arrivals, 12 departures and six players moving within the division.

£30m - Luiz and Sissoko's moves to Chelsea and Tottenham respectively represented the day's highest reported fees in the Premier League, with Leicester's club-record capture of Islam Slimani not far behind.

13 - Sunderland broke their transfer record on deadline day for Didier Ndong, while Spurs equalled theirs in signing Sissoko, meaning 13 Premier League clubs have made record buys in this window. Only Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton, Manchester City, Middlesbrough and Stoke failed to set new records.

5 - Five players - Joe Hart, Wilfried Bony, Samir Nasri, Eliaquim Mangala and Jason Denayer - left Manchester City on loan.

4 - Juan Cuadrado will have spent four straight seasons on loan from Chelsea to Juventus if he sees out the three-year loan deal signed on Wednesday.
