Transfer news: Another bid rejected - Athletic Bilbao turn down £25m Manchester United offer for Ander Herrera

The 24-year-old has been linked with Old Trafford across the summer

Athletic Bilbao have revealed that yesterday they turned down a bid for Ander Herrera from Manchester United.

The midfielder has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford across the summer and with David Moyes so far failing to make any major additions to his squad, that interest has been backed up with a bid. Reports put the offer in the region of £25m.

However, Moyes' summer of frustration looks set to continue, with the offer turned down immediately and Athletic Bilbao president Josu Urrutia saying the club will not negotiate over a fee.

It's understood that Herrera has a release clause in his contract of £30.75m - which United will have to match if they are to secure the 24-year-old Spaniard.

Speaking at a press conference Urrutia said: "Yes we received an offer last night, an offical offer from Manchester United. When there's something I'll confirm it.

"Our club is different, our club is special, it's based on sentiment.

"Our objective as a club is not to make money through our players, but to have the best performances possible.

"To break a contract with Athletic, first they have to tell us they want to leave, and that's not the case with Ander, at the moment. Then they have to pay the buy-out clause in his contract, and that's not the case here either.

"In reality the buy-out clause in Ander's contract has not been met.

"We received the offer from Manchester last night and what we told them was we don't negotiate for our players."
