Both Newcastle United and Arsenal have made offers for Nottingham Forest youngster Jamaal Lascelles according to reports.

The 20-year-old defender has reportedly been offered a new contract by Billy Davies as Forest try to keep him for their promotion push.

It is understood that Arsenal sent chief scout Steve Rowley to watch Lascelles against Bolton last weekend and are prepared to offer around £3m for the player.

Newcastle are said to have made a larger offer, although Arsenal's is thought to increase based on appearances.

According to reports, Forest might contemplate accepting an increased bid provided the player was loaned back to them immediately.

Alan Pardew meanwhile is also thought to be looking at Vitesse Arnhem right-back Kelvin Leerdam as an alternative to Lascelles.
