Transfer news: Atlético Madrid willing to spend big to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on permanent basis

Spanish giants willing to part with the cash required to sign Chelsea's promising goalkeeper

Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has expressed his desire to sign on-loan goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea and is prepared to part with a considerable outlay.

The 21-year-old has spent the last three seasons on loan with the La Liga club, level at the top with Barcelona, and has made a big impression on Simone.

Reports suggest that Blues manager Jose Mourinho is keen to bring Courtois back to Stamford Bridge next season to provide competition for Petr Cech but he still values the latter as their first choice.

Asked if he would be willing to part with a sum in the region of £20m for the Belgian international, Simone said: "Definitely. For me anything paid for Courtois would be cheap.

"He's a young guy who has a huge future and is on track to becoming one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

"Signing a goalkeeper of his caliber would be a big step, but it will not be easy.

"It depends on what Courtois wants, his club knows our needs, but it is not up to us, because he is not our player."
