Transfer news: Chelsea captain John Terry 'resigned to leaving' Stamford Bridge - reports
Blues legend set for the exit as Mourinho plans for the future
Friday 24 January 2014
Chelsea are set to let club captain and legend John Terry leave Stamford Bridge this summer after refusing to offer him a long-term deal, according to reports.
The Daily Mirror suggest that the former England defender has been told he will only be offered a one-year contract and a considerable wages cut if he wishes to stay.
Terry is the Blues' most successful ever captain after lifting three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups and the Champions League during his sixteen-year stay.
The 33-year-old is rumoured to want a longer deal, but Jose Mourinho is concentrating on planning for the future rather than honouring former servants.
The revelations come as Chelsea look set to finalise a £15m deal for Mohamed Salah from FC Basel who joins Nemanja Matic and Bertrand Traore in joining the Londoners this January.
With Terry's deal set to expire at the end of the season, the Barking-born centre-back appears to be resigned to leaving the club in June.
He has already attracted interest from big-spending Turkish giants Galatasaray - who are managed by former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini and are scheduled to play Chelsea in the Champions league's last 16 next month.
