Transfer news: Dani Alves would love Chelsea defender David Luiz to join Barcelona but admits it is an 'impossible task'

Barcelona defender wants Brazil team-mate at the Nou camp but concedes Jose Mourinho will not sell

Barcelona’s Dani Alves says he would love Chelsea defender and Brazil team-mate David Luiz to join him at the Nou Camp – but concedes it would be a near “impossible task” for the Blues to sell the 26-year-old.

Luiz has been linked with a move to the La Liga champions after cooling their interest in Liverpool’s Daniel Agger.

"I would be happy if David Luiz would come to Barcelona. I always want the best for my friends and advise them to join Barca if they get the chance," Alves was quoted in El Mundo Deportivo.

"He's not just a friend, but he has a lot of quality, too.

"The problem is not whether he would like to come here, but that you have to take him away from [manager Jose] Mourinho and that will not be easy.

“Letting David Luiz join Barca will not be an option for him and even less so as it would make us stronger. It will be incredibly difficult, nearly impossible.”

Luiz is expected to have a meeting with the returning Mourinho today about his future. The Portuguese manager previously said of Luiz, who joined Benfica in 2007:”I’ve known him since the beginning because he went very young to Portugal so I’ve watched him a lot.

“I think, from a defensive point of view, he can be much more effective, much more solid. But, for me, the potential is incredible. He has to play always.”
