Transfer news: Everton striker Nikica Jelavic could be on his way out of Goodison Park after Hamburg confirm interest
Bundesliga club are looking for a 'dangerous striker' and believe that the Croatian will fit the bill
Hamburg look set to launch a £6m bid for Everton striker Nikica Jelavic, with Roberto Martinez set to put his faith in new signing Arouna Kone instead.
Jelavic made a spectacular start to his Everton career, scoring 11 goals in his first 16 games which included a run that saw him become the quickest player to reach 10 goals for Everton since Tom Browell in 1912.
However, he struggled throughout last season to replicate these performances, eventually being dropped by then boss David Moyes in favour of Victor Anichebe, and it seems his days at Goodison Park are numbered.
Hamburg sporting director Oliver Kreuzer said: "Jelavic would be exactly the right player for us. He is a really dangerous striker.
“But we have to scrutinise whether it is financially possible. I have heard that Everton's new manager wants to sell him.
"Day in, day out, I talk to all the agents, but nothing has come up yet,” Kreuzer added. “If we manage that (to sell two or three players) we could work out if a loan or a payment in instalments would be possible."
Everton are believed to be looking at signing a second Kone this summer, with Le Mans centre-back Mory Kone believed to be on Martinez's wish list. The 19-year-old could be available for around £850,000 and Martinez wants cover for the central defensive position with interest in John Heitinga coming from Turkey.
