Transfer news: Juan Mata to Manchester United, Dimitar Berbatov to Arsenal and the biggest deals that could still happen

A look at the potential biggest deals as the January transfer window nears closure

As the transfer window hurtles towards its final week, via the occasional sharp turn, the Premier League's leading clubs will be anxious to get their business done as soon as possible.

Manchester United, for example, have been linked with audacious moves for Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata after an apocalyptic slump in form has seen them dumped out of the FA Cup and fall fourteen points behind league leaders Arsenal.

The Gunners are striving to do business themselves, but Arsene Wenger is reluctant to spend heavily until the summer. After loan bids for Alvaro Morata, from Real Madrid, and Juventus midfielder Mirko Vucinic both stumbled at the last hurdle, the Frenchman may have to endure a quiet month.

Liverpool, perilously sat in the top four on goal difference, will surely add to their squad and have set their sights on FC Basel's Mohamed Salah but could be put off by the £16m price tag.

After rejecting a £10m bid from Arsenal in the summer, Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew will have been dreading another offer for Yohan Cabaye. With Paris Saint Germain now favourites to land the France international, for £21m, he may have to take the cash and move on.

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce is another manager who may be forced into admitting defeat as Fulham circle above Upton Park in the hope of snaring their exciting youngster Ravel Morrison.

Here, we take a look at what could yet be the biggest deals of the transfer window...
