Laurent Koscielny has opened new contract talks with Arsenal and is set to become another in a string of players to commit their futures to the club.

The defender, who is allegedly being watched by several top European sides, has begun to discuss improved terms to his current deal which still has three years to run.

The new contract is likely to see him become one of the Gunners’ top earners with a salary of £90,000-a-week on the table. This deal would see him join players such as Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott in the club’s second tier of highest earners.

Arsenal, whose top earners are manager Arsene Wenger and German star Mesut Ozil, want the French international to sign the new contract to dispel any interest from other clubs when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, among others, were all reported to have been interested in signing Koscielny but these contract talks would seemingly put an end to any speculation about his future.

The 28-year-old’s deal comes as another in a long list of Arsenal players to agree to new contracts at the Emirates in recent months, as the club look to secure the services of their best players.

Santi Cazorla, Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky all penned improved deals over the past few weeks.

Wilshere, Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson and Aaron Ramsey have also committed their futures to the club, as has goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
