Liverpool are being linked with a reported move for Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole as the England international prepares to bring the curtain down on his Blues career.
Cole’s contract is up for renewal in the summer, and with no sign of a new deal coming in his direction, the 33-year-old is likely to leave the Stamford Bridge outfit. Jose Mourinho’s reluctance to pick the 107-time capped international has signalled that the end if nigh for Cole at the club he joined in 2006.
But reports claim that Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring the experienced defender to Anfield next season on a free transfer in order to strengthen his blossoming squad. Despite being linked with a big-money move to the MLS to play out his career, the Reds appear to be ready to offer Cole a chance to remain in the English top flight.
It is believed that Rodgers, who was at Chelsea alongside Cole until late 2008, has asked the Liverpool owners for permission to sign Cole on a one-year deal from the summer.

However, rumours are rife that a return to France for one last payday is a possibility, with PSG and Monaco set to battle it out for his signature. There is no guarantee he will leave the champions, though, and should the Red Devils’ fail in their pursuit of Leighton Baines, there may be another deal on the table.

Ferdinand may be given a coaching role to continue at the club, but his playing days appear to be numbered.

Since making his debut in 2000, the Nigeria international has made over 300 appearances for the Magpies, and has proved himself to be a fan’s favourite in that time. A player with a direct aerial threat and eye for goal, Ameobi is an ideal target man. However, his failure to score this season in 14 games suggests that he could well make an emotional departure from the club this summer after losing his place in the team to Loic Remy.

It seems unlikely that Sunderland would want to release a player that cost them £6m just three years ago, but with Gardner wanting to play in the Premier League, they may have no choice.

The 30-year-old sees his two-year deal expire in the summer and much like a lot of Premier League clubs at present, their future in the Premier League is uncertain. A move back to Hull could be an option to reunite him with former boss Steve Bruce, now manager of the Tigers.

Despite this, the 29-year-old has drawn interest from Swansea and Everton and could join either side having become surplus to requirements at the Britannia Stadium.

The move would go against Rodgers’ policy of developing young talent, but the Northern Irishman believes his added experience would prove invaluable to the rest of the squad, along was his past-ventures in the Champions League having won the competition with Chelsea in 2012.
Liverpool have chopped and changed their starting left-back this season, with Jose Enrique, Aly Cissokho and Mamadou Sakho all featuring at full-back, although youngster Jon Flanagan appears to have nailed down the starting berth since the turn of the year.
