Transfer news: Liverpool 'target' Marcelo plays down talk of £25m Real Madrid exit
The left-back has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu this summer
Real Madrid defender Marcelo has moved to play down talk of a summer transfer amid rumours of an impending bid from Liverpool.
The Premier League title chasing Reds are rumoured to be lining up a £25m bid for the Brazil international.
With Jon Flanagan, a right-footed youngster, being called on to fill in at left-back at times this season, the position has been noted as a weakness by Brendan Rodgers. Marcelo, who has been at Real Madrid since 2007, is seen as the ideal reinforcement.
However, Liverpool may have to continue to rely on the 'Red Cafu' after Marcelo signalled that he is more than happy at the Bernabeu, in a move that will dampen speculation.
"My best memory of football was when I signed for Real Madrid because I did not expect it," he told El Mundo Deportivo.
"It was a spectacular moment. I've been here since I was 18, I'm from Madrid in practice and I am proud to be one of the captains of Real Madrid."
The 25-year-old has just over a year remaining on his current contract.
