Roberto Martinez, the Everton manager, has revealed that Manchester United have not made an improved offer for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines.

United made a £28m double offer for the pair earlier this month, but it rejected by the Goodison Park club and described as “derisory and insulting”.

When asked if there had been a further offer for the players, Martinez, whose team play Stevenge in the Capital One Cup second round tomorrow night, said: “Nothing. We are focusing on Stevenage.”

“I know there's going to be talk about the transfer window but that's not what we're focusing on now when we've got an important game in front of us.”

Martinez has already signed three players form his former team Wigan this summer – Joel Robles, Antolin Alcaraz and Arouna Kone – but denied he had lodged a bid for Republic of Ireland international James McCarthy, who has also interested Newcastle United.

“There has been no bid made,” the Spaniard said. “I think it’s quite easy to understand that James is a player I signed at a young age and I’ve got huge admiration for him, so it doesn't take anyone [much] to create a little bit of a story. But there has been no bid.”
