The transfer window is open which means it's that time of year when stories of clubs spending ludicrous sums of money on players you've never heard of is par for the course. Here, we take a look at some of today's more intriguing rumours...
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly said they would sell Gareth Bale to Real Madrid if an offer of over £80m is met. The deal could include two of Real Madrid’s players, Angel Di Maria and Fabio Coentrao, moving to White Heart Late. The Welsh international has had a ringing endorsement from Real Madrid’s captain Iker Casillas who claimed that Bale was “one of the top three or four players in Europe.”
Manchester United have touched down in Britain, after their tour in the Far East, and this has prompted a flurry of transfer news. David Moyes and United’s chief executive Ed Woodward look set to have important discussions within the next 24 hours over their transfer targets. Cesc Fabregas looks to be top of the agenda as Moyes hopes to make a big signing. United’s other target Luka Modric could be set to stay at Real Madrid as reports suggest that Real would want Modric to help Bale settle in the Spanish capital. Moyes is also determined to persuade Wayne Rooney to stay at Manchester United as Chelsea remain interested in the striker. Nani could be ready for a move away from Old Trafford as he looks to move to the mega-rich AS Monaco for £13m.
The Darren Bent saga continues as he is again linked with both Fulham and Newcastle. Fulham look to have made the first move as allegedly a £6m bid has been made for the Aston Villa striker. A move to Newcastle still remains an option though.
Chelsea have stood firm on David Luiz’s future as they claim he is not moving to Bayern Munich.
And, finally, Arsenal’s bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez looks to stay at £40m as his contract discussions rumble on.
