Transfer news: Santi Cazorla reveals Arsenal want to sign Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas

Cazorla has spoken to the Spanish goalkeeper about joining the Gunners but he has only enquired about what life is like living in England

Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has revealed that he has told Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas to join Arsenal – and has also confirmed that the Gunners are interested in signing the Spanish Number One.

In an interview with website Sport360, Cazorla admits that he would love to have his compatriot at the Emirates having fallen behind Diego Lopez in the pecking order at Real. With Arsenal’s current first choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny currently going through a rough patch in what has been a much-improved season, there are still questions over whether the Pole is the long-term solution to a recent problem position.

However, the Gunners face competition from a number of clubs across Europe that are interested in the 32-year-old, and Casillas is still considered one of the finest goalkeepers currently playing the game.

While Cazorla admitted he has spoken to Casillas about his desire to see him in the same side, he stressed that the Real shot-stopper had only enquired about life in England, and not what it was like playing for Arsenal.

"I've told Iker I would like him to join Arsenal,” the 29-year-old told Sport360. “But so far he has just been curious about my experience in England.

"His situation is very complicated, but he has to make a decision. Lots of clubs want him, including Arsenal.

"But I think it would be very difficult to leave Real because he knows what he has at Madrid, and what he could find at another club."
