Luke Shaw, Southampton’s England Under-21 left-back, has told Mauricio Pochettino that he has no intention of leaving the club despite interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, according to reports.
Despite being just 18-years-old, Shaw has already started for the Saints on forty occasions and believes that his education will be best served by remaining loyal to the club which brought him through their academy.
While United and Chelsea, along with other suitors, are likely to return with an inflated offer in the summer, the news will be rapturously received by Pochettino’s Saints who remain in the top half of the Premier League table.
Southampton are a club famed for their academy and will be all too aware that - after receiving £15m from Arsenal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain despite the winger having only played at League One level - they will be entitled to ask for over £20m for the latest young star to blossom from the south coast.
Chelsea have been forced into playing Cesar Azpilcueta in left-back following Ashley Cole’s injury while United have pursued a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra ever since David Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson last year.
