Transfer news: Tottenham not interested in Luka Modric returning to White Hart Lane as part of Gareth Bale deal with Real Madrid

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy remains angry about the Croatian's conduct during his time at White Hart Lane

Any attempt by Real Madrid to include Luka Modric as a makeweight in the deal to sign Gareth Bale will be rejected by Tottenham.

Reports today suggested that the Croatian could be offered up as part of any deal - however Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is not interested in seeing the playmaker return to White Hart Lane according to the Evening Standard.

It is understood Levy remains angry over Modric's conduct when a Tottenham player.

The 27-year-old left north London just 12 months ago after a torturous switch to the Bernabeu that saw him refuse to play at one stage before moving in a £33m deal. However, since moving to Spain, Modric has struggled to hold down a place in the starting XI and suffered the ignominy of being voted the worst signing of last summer by readers of newspaper Marca.

The proposal to include him as part of any deal comes amid Real Madrid's struggles to find the funds to sign Bale.

Tottenham will only agree to the Welshman's sale if a cash bid in excess of the £80m Real paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo is received.

Real are having to consider selling players and while Tottenham will reject Modric, the Croatian could instead find a home at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have been frustrated in their attempts to sign a creative midfielder and a move for Modric remains a possibility - particularly considering Real's need to do business.
