Newcastle defender Sebastien Bassong has joined Tottenham for a reported £8m. With Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson struggling with injuries, manager Harry Redknapp needed reinforcements. Meanwhile, Andros Townsend and Ryan Smith have left White Hart Lane on loan moves to Leyton Orient and Wycombe Wanderers respectively, and Milan have agreed a £13.5m fee with Real Madrid to sign Spurs target Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Hull have completed the signings of Seyi Olofinjana from Stoke and USA striker Jozy Altidore. Midfielder Olofinjana joins for £3m, while Altidore arrives on loan from Villarreal. Brown has also handed a trial to Senegal striker Henri Camara.
