In Monday's news, Brendan Rodgers has declared that Liverpool will not be making a move for AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli. The Italian hot-head had been linked with a £14m move to Anfield, but Rodgers revealed that the club have no interest in signing the former Manchester City star.

With Thomas Vermaelen missing the Emirates Cup at the weekend, Manchester United appear to be closing in on the Arsenal captain, who has been linked with a £12m move to Old Trafford. Vermaelen is said to be struggling with injury, but his absence has only intensified talk of a move. Barcelona are also believed to be monitoring the situation.

Tottenham are believed to be closing in on a £17m deal for Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio, with reports suggesting that a move for the two-time capped Argentinian could be completed this week.
