LA Galaxy are reportedly monitoring Wayne Rooney’s situation at Manchester United as they brace themselves for Steven Gerrard’s departure.

Gerrard recently posted a cryptic message on Instagram suggesting his time in America is nearing an end. The former Liverpool midfielder stated it had been a “privilege” to play for LA Galaxy and added that: “This city and this club will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you.”

With Gerrard therefore expected to announce his retirement in the year to come, Galaxy have reportedly now turned their attention to Rooney.

According to The Sun, the West Coast club have supposedly begun asking advisors how much the United captain would cost.

Rooney’s future at the club remains unclear, with the 31-year-old being pushed to the periphery of the starting team under Jose Mourinho.

The player has endured a similar fate in the England camp too after manager Gareth Southgate opted to drop his captain for the national side’s recent clash with Slovenia.

Galaxy could therefore offer Rooney a way out as they prepare to fill the hole left by Gerrard.

But the United star is determined to fight on as he hunts down the four goals required to break Bobby Charlton’s club scoring record of 249.

LA Galaxy aren’t the only side interested in Rooney, however. The player has been subject to interest from the Chinese Super League which has already captured some big Premier League names, such as Ramires and Demba Ba, thanks to the wealth on offer.

Inter Milan are also believed to be eyeing Rooney as the club’s new Chinese owners seek to boost Inter’s global name with a big-name signing.
