In Tuesday's news, Jack Rodwell completed a move to Sunderland.

The Manchester City man completed the move for a reported £10m million pounds.

The Black Cats manager Gus Poyet claimed over the weekend that he was anticipated plenty of activity in the transfer market before the window closes at the end of this month.

Samuel Eto’o could also join the Black Cats. Poyet failed to sign Fabio Borini permanently from Liverpool so has now turned to the former Chelsea striker.

Elsewhere, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is reportedly preparing to axe six struggling players. Nani, Anderson, Marouane Fellaini and Wilfried Zaha have all failed to impress van Gaal, whose team claimed some early bragging rights over Liverpool after beating them 3-1 on Monday to lift the International Champions Cup.

Manchester United are also expecting Atletico Madrid to make a move this week for the out-of-favour duo Shinji Kagawa and Javier Hernandez.

Arsenal are weighing up a £24m offer for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to reports in Portugal.

Arsene Wenger was keen to sign Sami Khedira from Real Madrid, but the deal is believed to have stalled. Wenger could also lose Nacho Monreal and Mikel Arteta, with Athletic Bilbao pursuing both players.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are leading the race to sign Dani Alves. The Barcelona and Brazil defender’s agent recently denied a possible move to Inter Milan.

Brendan Rodgers is reportedly interested in Alves as a replacement for the inconsistent Glen Johnson.
