Euro 2012 Diary: Czech fans set to take over Wroclaw
Saturday 16 June 2012
As joint hosts, Poland would probably have expected a sizable home advantage for each of their matches during the competition, with thousands of red and white-clad folk roaring them home. That may not be the case for Franciszek Smuda's side in tonight's group match against the Czech Republic, though.
The game takes place in Wroclaw, 212 miles away from Warsaw yet only 173 miles north of the Czech capital Prague. Authorities expect up to 50,000 Czech fans to invade the city and its "fan zones", giving the "visitors" a sizable following.
Lundgren's a Toffee
Swedish actor Dolph Lundgren has revealed he grew up supporting Everton. Given Sylvester Stallone's appearance at Goodison Park in 2007 (he wore an Everton scarf at a match against Reading), it's a shame we didn't know this sooner, as it might have spared them belting the living daylights out of each other in the lamentable Rocky IV.
Germany fined for balls up
The German Football Association (DFB) has been fined £8100 by Uefa after their supporters appeared to throw rolled-up balls of paper at the Portugal players during their Group B match last Saturday, which Germany won. 1-0. The Portuguese governing body were also punished for delaying the start of the second half in that match, and were fined £4,000.
