It will go down as one of the great goals of all-time. Depending on your opinion, it was either the goal of the World Cup or a very close runner-up to James Rodriguez's brilliant chest and volley against Uruguay.
Football's most dominant nation for the last six years Spain had opened the scoring through a Xabi Alonso penalty. All seemed to be going according to routine in Salvador.
But then Daley Blind sent a sublime 50-yard lofted pass straight into the path of the free and clear Manchester United striker.
He had time to bring it down, but audaciously, he leapt through the air and guided his header over the top of a stranded Iker Casillas.
Things went from bad to worse for Spain from there, while the Netherlands got all the way to penalties in the semi-final.

Street artists in the host nation have left a great tribute to the goal, in an almost perfect recreation of Van Persie's outrageous leap.
