Athletics: Pavey meets qualifying standard for Osaka
Jo Pavey qualified for the World Championships in Osaka next month by beating the 10,000 metres qualifying time in Watford on Saturday.
Pavey lapped every other competitor in her race at the BMC Nike Grand Prix at Woodside Parkto finish in a personal best of 31 minutes 26.94 seconds. Pavey's previous best was 32min 21sec.
"The weather was horrible all the time, then it would suddenly get worse for a while, then it would calm, then become horrible again," Pavey said. "But the crowd and the pacemakers were absolutely brilliant. Now I've got to prepare for the other extreme and sort out how to run in too-hot weather."
Pavey will begin preparations in the 3,000m at the British Grand Prix in Sheffield on 15 July. She will then head for the IAAF Golden League meetings.
