Mara Yamauchi was in record-breaking form in New York yesterday, boosting her preparations for the Virgin London Marathon on 25 April with a course-record win in the New York City Half-Marathon.

The 36-year-old, a runner-up in the London Marathon last year before a foot injury ruled her out of the World Championships in Berlin, produced a stirring comeback to overhaul the big home hope, Deena Kastor, the 2004 Olympic marathon bronze medallist.
