Floyd Mayweather’s nickname is ‘Money’ for a good reason.

On Saturday night he made more than twice of what Lionel Messi made last year with Barcelona.

The undefeated boxer easily neutralised the Fighting Pride of the Philippines Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas and went back home with at least $179,808,511 (£116,554,424) richer.

The Blaugrana striker is estimated to have made around £48 million, including bonuses and sponsorships, in 2014 which means that the American boxer made more in one night than what the Argentine earns in two years.

Mayweather went through 12 historic rounds that earned him the victory via unanimous decision – it is estimated that each round earned him almost £10 million and every single minute made him over £3 million richer.

This effectively means that Messi makes £1 million more each month than what Mayweather made in just one minute in Las Vegas without even touching a fruit machine.

For the record, Pacquiao left with the generous consolation price of $119,872,340 (£77,702,949).
