Groves returns to action for the first time since his devastating stoppage defeat by Carl Froch, when he faces the Frenchman Christopher Rebrasse for the European super-middleweight title at Wembley Stadium, just yards away from Wembley Stadium, where that loss occurred in May. The bout also doubles up as WBC final eliminator for Anthony Dirrel's belt.
Speaking on Sportlobster Groves said:
"Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg have both enjoyed recent success and I will be definitely joining these two Brits in keeping the winning trend going. I wish Rebrasse a safe fight, but also a very unsuccessful one. This is boxing and I’m going to take the title off him
"I have always wanted to be European champion, because it is a fantastic title and so many great boxers have held the belt over the years. This fight against Rebrasse is also essentially a world title shot and so I am incredibly excited for Saturday. Win this fight and I will take on Anthony Dirrell for the world title. However, I don’t want to think about the world title too much. You want it to act as motivation and it is a fantastic incentive, but there is a task at hand.
"I have always boxed better with a bit of nerves. I think it is good when your blood is pumping, you are feeling lively, nice and warm, you are loose, you are awake, and your brain is switched on. If you are very nervous, it is going to affect you and you start feeling tired or anxiety sets in. A little bit of adrenaline never hurt anybody. Closer to the time, it is just excitement. I haven’t been really nervous for an awful long time.
"We certainly hope Saturday is the start of my time as a dominant boxer. We are certainly confident enough that I have the ability to beat Rebrasse and to conquer the world. I’ve got stuck in and work hard so world domination is on the radar. One step at a time.”
