Conor McGregor hits back at Mike Tyson over claims Floyd Mayweather will 'kill him' in Las Vegas superfight

The Irishman stands to earn £62m in the pairs clash on August 26

Conor McGregor has warned his critics will “eat their words” as he hit back at Mike Tyson’s claims that Floyd Mayweather will “kill him” in their Las Vegas superfight next month.

The UFC star goes toe-to-toe with the undefeated former five-weight world champion on August 26 in what will be his professional debut in boxing.

McGregor is the overwhelming underdog in the fight give Mayweather’s 49 wins from 49 fights record, leading former heavyweight champion Tyson to rule out the Irishman’s chances.

He said: “McGregor is going to get killed in boxing,” Tyson said on Barstool Sports' Pardon My Take podcast.

“I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing because that's what it's all about: Can the boxer beat the MMA guy?

“McConor [sic] put his dumb a** in a position where he's gonna get knocked out because this guy's been doing this all his life since he was a baby.

“McConor [sic] can't kick and grab and stuff so he won't stand much of a chance. He took the biggest sucker rules in the history of boxing.”

But McGregor, who is expected to take £62m from the fight, responded to Tyson’s prediction by likening himself to the American’s former promoter Don King.

“That's nice Mike, but you're looking at the new Don King here, son. Money is mine,” he said.

“You are all going to eat your words for the rest of your days, while I eat lobster for the rest of mine.”
