Two world champions, Britain's Jonathan Edwards and the English-born Italian Fiona May, both scored convincing wins in the triple and long jump events at Italy's oldest meet, the Oak Prize in Rovereto last night.

Edwards beat his fellow Briton Larry Achike by 17cm in the men's triple jump, with a winning measure of 17.27m.

May took the women's long jump with a leap of 6.71m, 11cm clear of Trude Vaszi, of Hungary.

Fabrizio Mori, silver medalist at this year's World Championships in Edmonton, finished strongly to beat the Jamaican Jan Weakley and Britain's Antonu Borsumato in the 400m hurdles in 48.72 sec.
