Fallon at Curragh for O'Brien rides
Kieren Fallon will have his first rides as the number one jockey for the Ballydoyle team when the 2005 Irish Flat season starts at the Curragh tomorrow.
The former Champion takes the mount on the unraced three-year-old Jaguar On The Run for trainer Aidan O'Brien in the Peter Keatley Curragh Equine Groundcare Maiden. Fallon's other rides for O'Brien are Kitty O'Shea in the EBF Park Express Stakes and Mullins Bay in the Irish Lincoln.
Globe-trotting Corriolanus has his first outing in Britain since November at Lingfield today in the Littlewoods Bet Direct Winter Derby (3.30) with trainer Philip Mitchell confident he can add to his recent success in Dubai.
Mitchell is not afraid to send his horses to all points of the compass for a race, and the five-year-old is no exception, having travelled to both Norway and Turkey last season. He recently took part in the Dubai International Carnival, performing with distinction on turf when winning once and finishing second twice. "He is in great health and came back from Dubai at the end of February, so he has had plenty of time to settle in," said Mitchell. "Although his runs there were on turf, he is very versatile and he won on the all-weather before going out to Dubai. We have a reasonable draw in stall nine, and he has as good a chance as any if you look at his dirt rating."
Ecomium, ranked highly in the ante-post lists for the 2004 Derby, reappears in the Winter Derby following a seven-month absence.
