Bowling: 'Spot-on' Harlow edges out qualifier for indoor crown
Monday 25 January 2010
England's Greg Harlow claimed his maiden World Indoor Bowls Championship title yesterday with a 9-8, 10-3 win over qualifier Stewart Anderson, the world junior champion.
The 24-year-old Scot, the first qualifier to reach the world final in Hopton-on-Sea, Norfolk, kept it tight in the first set and the start of the second, but the key moment came when Harlow scored a triple to move 8-3 ahead.
"It's what I've been playing for all my life," said fifth seed Harlow. "I felt my tactics of using a variety of short-length jacks were spot-on today – I didn't want Stewart to get into the rhythm we'd seen him get into all week, and that worked." Harlow, from Ely, reached the final in 2006 but lost to Mervyn King.
