Tom Daley, the 10m diving world champion, yesterday received a boost as he attempts to be fit in time for next week's Junior World Championships when he got straight A grades in his GCSEs.

Daley earned two A*s in Spanish and Photography and an A in English Literature, to go with the four A*s he got last year. The 16-year-old from Plymouth said: "This year was all about my GCSEs, learning new dives and the Commonwealth Games."

He hopes to shake off a tricep injury to compete at the world juniors in Arizona and has already started work on A-Levels in Spanish, Maths and Photography, which he will complete in January 2012 to allow him six months' uninterrupted preparation for the London Olympics.
