Shelley Rudman today begins her attempt to add a skeleton world championship medal to her World Cup crown.

Earlier this month Rudman clinched the World Cup title by taking a fifth podium finish in the season's eight races. She finished third in Calgary despite injuring her back in pre-race training. The injury has restricted her preparation for Lake Placid.

"It only needs to hold up for two more days," Rudman said. "A World Championship medal would be the icing on the cake."

The women's event is spread over two days, with two runs per day.
