The Good: Amazing Lionel Messi
Argentina's midfield magician enchanted supporters yet again on Saturday. The diminutive playmaker scored a stylish hat-trick as his side beat Brazil 4-3 in a friendly in New Jersey. After slotting home his first with trademark composure he rounded the keeper before saving the best of his treble until last. Picking up the ball just beyond the half-way line, the 24-year-old galloped forward and curled in an elegent, long-range shot to truly leave his mark on the match. Despite being in America rather than Poland or Ukraine, Messi still managed to steal the limelight.
The Bad: Lobster love-in
You hope Danny Guthrie enjoys his honeymoon more than his wedding. Police, it has emerged, were twice called to the nuptials of the Newcastle midfielder and his girlfriend Rebecca Middleman at Allerton Castle in north Yorkshire. Hold tight for the explanation... Lobster thermidor, no less, was thrown by guests, turning the reception into a brawl. Staff described the incident as "more Big Fat Gypsy Wedding than our usual clientele".
The Odd: Bolt's bruising weekend
Jamaica's favourite sprinter has endured a difficult weekend. Yesterday he was involved in a car accident near his home in Jamaica but escaped without injury, prompting the mind to flash back to a similar incident three years ago when he crashed his sports car on the outskirts of Kingston. Such incidents shed his complaint, made after Thursday's Diamond League win in Oslo, of starting blocks too small for his size-13 feet, in trivial light.
