The Good: Henry's heroics

The veteran Frenchman continues to endanger defences and dazzle spectators. Thierry Henry, who so gloriously enlivened Arsenal during his two-month return to north London, struck his first Major League Soccer hat-trick as New York Red Bulls gunned down Montreal Impact 5-2 on Saturday. Having scored with a glancing header to make it 1-1, Henry made it 3-2 with a typically stylish strike from the edge of the area before delicately dinking in his third from close-range. How Arsène Wenger must wish the bearded wonder was still a Gunner.

The Bad: Sharapova's poor form

The Russian, at one time the golden girl of tennis, again floundered on the big stage, falling to Agnieszka Radwanska, of Poland, in the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. The humbling of Sharapova in the US marked her fourth loss in the final at Miami and reminded the watching world of her woeful run. Indeed, her last major success came when she won the Australian Open in 2008. It seems she needs more match practice and less modelling.

The Odd: Self defeating tactics

Deviousness knows no bounds in football. Preston manager Graham Westley accused four of his players of leaking delicate team and tactical information to Sheffield Wednesday on the eve of the League One contest between the teams. Wednesday prevailed 2-0 but the game was tarnished when Westley claimed: "Their bench said to me during the second half: 'Four Preston players told us your team yesterday'."
