Ivo Karlovic

The Croatian beanpole, who stands at a doorframe-nudging 6ft 10in, recorded the fastest serve known to man on Saturday, firing down a 156mph rocket in his country's Davis Cup doubles match against Germany. His stellar efforts came to nothing, mind, as Germany edged the match by five sets and took the tie 3-2.

Tottenham's forward line

Spurs' strikers have been criticised for their wasteful displays this season, most notably in last month's defeat at Blackpool when they managed 58 shots and just one goal. That changed yesterday, with Jermain Defoe firing in two pearlers and Roman Pavlyuchenko scoring a fine third. Just in time for Wednesday's rematch with Milan.

The Bad

Lewis Hamilton

After struggling last season to match the Red Bulls, the Briton has got his excuses in early this time, claiming the new Pirelli tyres have "slowed down" his car. Nothing like a level playing field, eh Lewis?

Kevin Pietersen

Now that KP's been forced to pull out of next month's IPL to undergo a hernia operation, giving up his £400,000 appearance fee, perhaps Deccan Chargers should move their sights across the sea to Kevin O'Brien, whose big-hitting century gave Ireland victory against England. The 27-year-old already takes after KP in the flamboyant hair stakes...

The Odd

Mike Tyson

There are many examples of famous sportsmen trying their hands at other disciplines (Michael Jordan, Ian Botham, Dwain Chambers and, er, Andy Goram to name but a few) but the news that Mike Tyson is to become a professional pigeon racer surely eclipses them all in the odd stakes. The former heavyweight champ – apparently a pigeon fancier since a child – has agreed to race against the pros for a TV show. And it turns out Tyson has turned from fighter to referee as he tries to stop his birds attacking each other: if one pigeon is bullying another "maybe he's even beating up his woman – then I pick that guy out," Tyson says. "It's like a guy in prison who can't hang out with the other prisoners, so they have to put him in the hole!" Well, we'll take your word for that, Mike.
