Sport in brief: Coe's new stadium plan

The post-Games future of the Stratford stadium could yet be as an 80,000-arena after Lord Coe suggested that it could form the centre-piece of a bid for the 2015 World Athletics Championship.

On Thursday the stadium was included in London United's quest to host matches if England hosts the 2018 World Cup finals. Both events would mean that current plans to reduce it to a 25,000 capacity arena would be scrapped.

Sauber buys back BMW

German car maker BMW has agreed to sell its Formula One team to previous owner Peter Sauber, provided the team gets a place on the grid in the next season. BMW earlier this year decided to pull out of Formula One racing. The company said yesterday that a previous agreement to sell the team to Qadbak Investments has been annulled. The Sauber team is based in Hinwil, Switzerland.
