If you like watching big men bash each other around, then today should be to your taste. The David Haye-Nikolai Valuev WBA heavyweight title fight sees the 15st Brit face the seven-foot tall, 23st Russian, who looks like a Bond villain. If Haye gets clocked by Valuev's giant mitts it could be embarrassing. But a convincing display of punching and movement will enhance Haye's credentials. A small bet, £5 Haye to win in round five, 33-1 Boylesports, will do.

The English and Welsh rugby teams test their progress against Australia and New Zealand. England's manager, Martin Johnson, has had to pick some younger players along with Jonny Wilkinson, no longer a whippersnapper, but rejuvenated in Toulon. The Wallabies are battle-hardened if not battered, losing to the All Blacks last weekend. If Wilkinson kicks well, and Shane Geraghty asserts his Premiership verve England have a chance – £10 win, 9-5 Sportingbet. Wales will push New Zealand, but lose – bet the handicap, £10 Wales, +13 points, 10-11, Totesport.

The heavy hitters of the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, when a Chelsea win will leave Manchester United trailing by five points. Chelsea's power play, refined by Carlo Ancelotti, should unhinge a nervous defence. The United-supporting bookie Fred Done (Betfred) has chalked up his boys at 3-1. Take the hint, £10 win Chelsea, 11-10 Ladbrokes.

*Brett Favre received a hostile welcome from Green Bay fans on his return with Minnesota but the Packers were docile for most of the game. A slow pace and fast ground meant "thumbs down" for Roman Emperor in the Melbourne Cup.
