This season's final meeting takes place in two weeks' time, but aficionados will have only just over five months to wait for the new season as five fixtures have been planned for December.
The venues will be Black Forest Lodge (Devon, 3 December), Tweseldown (Hampshire, 10 Dec), Wadebridge (Cornwall, 17 Dec), Ideford Arch (Devon (30 or 31 Dec) and Cottenham (Cambridgeshire, 31 Dec).
There has been an autumn point-to-point season in Ireland for some years now and, with the ground likely to be better in December than in an average May or June, it makes sense to start earlier.
The West Country trainer Jeremy Scott, who is taking out a public licence, runs the progressive Gone To Lunch in the men's open (4.20) at Bratton Down, north Devon, today. But the six-year-old may have to settle for a place behind Ron Treloggen's smart mare Chita's Flight, who has rattled up a hat-trick. Today's other meeting is at Trecoed, west Wales, where Surrey owner-rider Tim Underwood has entered Whites Touch in the closing intermediate (5.30). Underwood had a winner there in 2003 and made the journey worthwhile last year when successful with I Am Convinced in the intermediate.
* The Countryside Alliance Club (Wales) meeting at Bonvilston, abandoned last Saturday, has been rescheduled for next Saturday.
