Racing: Bono a short-head in front in battle with the bookies

One week on from The Independent's Red issue, Bono's record stands at two wins from six runners, and a profit of £3.70 to a £10 level stake for a total outlay of £60.

Galatee was a nice 11-4 winner at Naas, as advised by her trainer, Jim Bolger, and Septimus, won the Dante Stakes Derby trial at 13-8. However, Alexandrova was pipped in the Oaks trial and Rob Roy disappointed badly in Saturday's Lockinge Stakes, bringing the unwelcome sight of too many bookies humming "Beautiful Day".

As for Bono's French connection, his mole in the stable of Arnaud Chaille-Chaille needs to stay underground a little longer after advising the Auteuil losers Bronco, described as "a walk up" and Marble Garden "a foregone conclusion".

With George Washington, King In Waiting and Grey Swallow yet to run there is still time for Independent readers to get out of the red and, more importantly, win some cash with which to back the Red campaign.
