Racing: Charity race winner Cristoforo follows up

Cristoforo, who won a charity race at Newbury when partnered by Frankie Dettori's wife, Catherine, this month, followed up in a mile and a half handicap at Folkestone yesterday.

This time leading apprentice Tom Queally was aboard Cristoforo, who is trained by Barney Curley and was sent off a well-backed 5-2 favourite.

Swinbrook started at 2-9 for the five-furlong maiden but had only a neck to spare under Seb Sanders over runner-up Ex Mill Lady.

Sanders said: "Swinbrook doesn't seem to want to be in front too long," while winning trainer James Toller added: "He probably idled a bit and didn't do it as easy as we had hoped. He probably needs six furlongs really, but had to fight for it."

Sky Crusader justified Epsom trainer Roger Ingram's high opinion with a decisive win in the Pilgrims Hospice Median Auction Maiden Stakes. Ingram said: "He has shown me a lot at home and frankly I would have been surprised if he had been beaten. It looks as if I've got something to look forward to."

There was another win for Epsom when Firework gave Jon Akehurst a change of luck by landing the Mark Rake Claiming Stakes. Akehurst said: "I've had 16 seconds and thought this one might be another one."
