Racing: Reshaped plans for Noseda's top fillies

Plans for Mellow Park and Spinnette, who disappointed in the Oaks at Epsom 10 days ago, have been redrawn by Jeremy Noseda. The Newmarket-based handler, who was on the mark with Just James in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot yesterday, said that Spinnette – who finished last at Epsom – would now drop back to maiden company, while Mellow Park, who finished sixth, is to have a break from racecourse action.

"Spinnette wasn't quite right after the Oaks but she's fine now and there is a mile-and-a-quarter maiden at Newmarket next month which she could go for," Noseda said.

"Mellow Park didn't really handle the track or the soft ground. She has had a bit of a break now and we will try and bring her back in the Lancashire Oaks. If that comes too quickly then we'll take our time, there is no rush.

"She lost her action a bit coming downhill but picked up on the rising ground and didn't run a bad race in the end, although I wouldn't want to take anything away from the first two [Kazzia and Quarter Moon] who were clearly the best on the day. Even if we'd had our ground and everything went right I think they would have been too good for us."
