Rovers take over at top after lapse by Leigh

Hull Kingston Rovers took over at the top of the Northern Ford Premiership as the previous leaders, Leigh, went down to a shock defeat at the hands of Sheffield Eagles yesterday.

Sheffield put in a stunning second-half performance to win 26-24, only their third victory of the season. Hull took full advantage, romping to a 60-6 win at Lancashire Lynx. Whetu Taewa scored two tries to take his tally to 10 for the season, while Mark Hewitt grabbed one try and kicked 10 goals.

Featherstone took over third place thanks to their 44-20 home success against Whitehaven, with winger, Jamie Stokes, and second-rower, Neil Lowe, scoring two tries each.

Dewsbury drop to fourth after being held to a 14-14 draw at Swinton, while Doncaster stay fifth after a 20-18 victory at Rochdale. Craig Weston, the Premiership's leading try-scorer, made it 14 for the season so far and also kicked two goals for Doncaster, for whom Carl Hall also scored two touchdowns.

Oldham stayed on course for a top-eight place, beating Hunslet 44-18, Widnes lost 30-18 at home to Keighley Cougars, while Barrow shaded their game with visitors Batley 28-25.

York's 23-7 defeat at Workington sees them drop tosecond-from-bottom below Sheffield.
