Castleford pin hopes on sealing Davis' return
Tuesday 15 June 2004
Castleford hope to tie up a deal with Halifax which will allow their 36-year-old ex-player, Brad Davis, to return to the Tigers on a rescue mission.
Davis left Cas for Wakefield at the end of the 2000 season and has been playing and coaching in France with Villeneuve this year.
Castleford, four points adrift at the foot of Super League, have identified him as the player to steer them to safety, but the Australian has already signed a contract to play and coach at Halifax. As compensation, Halifax could take as many as six Castleford players on loan.
Castleford are still trying to extend Luke Robinson's loan from Wigan.
Salford have beaten off a bid from Hull to sign Union Treiziste Catalane's outstanding second-rower, Djemal Fakir.
Two New Zealand Warriors internationals are being strongly linked with British clubs for next season. The scrum-half, Stacey Jones is earmarked for Hull, while the winger, Henry Fa'afili, is set to join Warrington.
Widnes' Neil Kelly has stood down as coach of Wales. The St Helens' Academy coach, Anthony Sullivan, is among the candidates to succeed him.
