Terry Matterson is to stay on as coach of Castleford for at least another two seasons. The Australian, who arrived at the club in 2006, will be at The Jungle until 2011 and says he wants to witness the growth of the next crop of young Cas players.
"The kids are coming through. That's an area I've worked very hard on and I've been especially pleased to see their development," he said yesterday. Matterson was unable to prevent relegation from Super League in his first season in charge, but brought the Tigers back up the following year.
They finished bottom last season, but have won seven Super League matches this time and are on the fringes of the play-off places: "It's fair to say that we're going through a tough period at the moment, but we have improved a lot this year," he said.
Brian Carney has declared himself available for Ireland's internationals against Serbia and Wales this autumn. The former Gateshead, Hull and Wigan winger had hoped to make his Warrington debut as soon as Saturday's match against the Catalan Dragons in Barcelona, provided he could be released from the last two weeks of his rugby union contract with Munster, but has not been included in the Wolves squad.
Huddersfield have extended the loan of Lee Mossop from Wigan on a week-by-week basis following his initial month with them.
Bradford are being strongly linked in Australia with South Sydney's Test utility player Craig Wing. He has two years left on his contract, but is thought to be trying to negotiate a release to take up a lucrative offer from the Bulls.
The Hull prop Peter Cusack has agreed a one-year contract extension.
