For the second week running, St Helens were on the wrong end of a thriller. They lost 17-16 at Huddersfield, Luke George's three tries having put the Giants in a winning position. Despite a late try from Ade Gardner, Saints could not quite salvage the points, as Jonny Lomax missed his conversion. An extra worry was the loss of James Roby with an apparently serious knee injury.

Hull beat Wakefield 14-10 despite two late Wildcats tries, while Hull KR inflicted the latest defeat on Widnes –36-0 – with Craig Hall scoring two of their tries. Warrington stayed on top of the table thanks to a 23-10 win at Bradford on Saturday. The Wolves, missing the injured Ben Westwood and Michael Monaghan, were made to work hard by a Bulls side still seeking their first home victory.

Salford made it three wins in a row with an exhilarating 44-12 demolition of London Broncos, while winger Ryan Hall scored a hat-trick in Leeds's 36-14 win at Castleford. The Rhinos raced to an 18-point lead; Cas fought back to 18-14 before losing touch in the last few minutes.
