Round-Up: Celtic indiscretion allows first win to go begging

Celtic Crusaders coach John Dixon admitted last night that a moment of indiscipline cost his side the chance to claim their first Super League win at Warrington.

The Crusaders three times held a six-point lead and were poised to share the spoils with the scores locked at 22-22 as the game entered the closing stages. However, they were reduced to 12 men after 72 minutes when prop Ryan O'Hara was sin-binned for holding Chris Riley down in the tackle and four minutes later Lee Briers edged the home side in front with a drop goal.

The Crusaders, who lost scrum-half Matty Smith with a suspected broken ankle 11 minutes from the end, then conceded a fifth try to winger Chris Hicks after the Wolves took advantage of the extra man to secure a 27-22 victory to leave the Welsh club at the foot of the table.

"We let ourselves down a little bit," said Dixon. "We're not in a position to have 13 players against 12. A lack of discipline hurt us. We're getting close – we could smell it today – but we're just not quite there yet and that's borne out by the result."

Peter Fox and Michael Dobson both scored hat-tricks as Hull KR defeated Salford 48-12 at New Craven Park. Salford gave the home side a fright with a Paul White try after just 64 seconds and the sides went in level at the break. But the home side started the second half strongly with Dobson crossing for the first of his three tries.

Fox then went over to add to his two first-half efforts and as Hull KR took control, Salford struggled. A defensive mix-up allowed Kris Welham to stroll in for a try on 55 minutes with Dobson converting.

Ten minutes later, Welham and Chaz I'Anson created an opening for Dobson to coast in and add the conversion to see Rovers 36-12 ahead. Eight minutes before the end Salford spilled the ball and Dobson kicked ahead to touch down for his hat-trick try before adding the conversion. In the last minute Welham jolted the ball loose in the tackle and picked up to touch down.
