It has emerged that Salford City Reds' 18-year-old scrum-half Theo Fages had stopped breathing after being knocked unconscious from a heavy tackle in the 40-6 loss at Catalan Dragons on Sunday. Prop Julian Bousquet was sent off for the third-minute challenge.

"He passed the ball to the back rower and then got hit with an elbow flush in the face which knocked him out cold," Salford's assistant coach, Sean Long, said. "For eight minutes he was out – he'd stopped breathing."
