Super League round-up: Wolves keep up the chase
Warrington kept up the pressure on Wigan at the top of Super League with a 66-12 thrashing of rock-bottom Wakefield.
Ryan Atkins led the way with a hat-trick of tries, making it seven in his last two home games, but the key man was Michael Monaghan, who was the architect of much of the Wolves' best work. The worry for Warrington was the loss of three players – Brett Hodgson, Ben Westwood and Rhys Evans – with injuries.
Hull KR kept their hopes of a top-eight finish alive and effectively ended Bradford's by beating them 34-8 at Odsal. Rovers trailed 8-0 early on put scored six unanswered tries to win convincingly.
St Helens are odds-on to finish third after beating their nearest challengers, Huddersfield, 19-6, on Friday night. A try on his 400th appearance by Paul Wellens and other efforts from Leon Pryce and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook set Saints on their way. The Giants suffered an extra blow when Luke O'Donnell suffered what is thought to be a season-ending knee ligament injury.
The re-run of Leeds and Castleford's dramatic Challenge Cup semi-final was a very different affair, with the Rhinos romping away to a 56-0 victory. Brent Webb and Rob Burrow both scored two tries.
