The uncapped Wakefield winger Ben Cockayne was shocked by his call-up to the 30-man England squad preparing for the end-of-season World Cup, but is now determined to avoid the cut when the numbers get trimmed later this year.
The former Hull KR player, 29, was the only new face in coach Steve McNamara's elite training squad, prompting Cockayne to say: "It's a dream come true. I was a bit shocked when Steve rang me. I knew I had been playing reasonably well but to get that call was unbelievable. Hopefully I can push on and make something of it."
