Wigan have signed Hull KR's Blake Green as their new stand-off for next season.

The former Australian Schoolboys captain is a direct replacement for Brett Finch, who returns home at the end of this campaign. "He is a player we have admired for some time," said the Wigan coach, Shaun Wane, who was preparing his side for tonight's opening play-off fixture against Catalan Dragons.

Green was limited by illness and injury to 10 appearances for Rovers this year. The club has received "substantial compensation" for the remaining two years of his contract and has already signed an experienced Australian successor in Travis Burns.

Alex Walmsley has continued a remarkable rise up the ranks by signing a three-year deal at St Helens. Six months ago, the 6ft 5in prop forward was playing as a student for Leeds Met and for Dewsbury Celtic as an amateur. He was given his professional chance by Batley.

Weller Hauraki, signed by Leeds from the Welsh club Crusaders two years ago, is to move to Castleford.

Bradford expect to learn today whether they will be allowed to retain their Super League membership under new ownership.
